In Gaudiya Vaishnava and Vedic theological cultures, the absolute cause of all causes is Lord Krishna , He is the cause of all causes , as explained in the opening of the Srimad Bhagavatam .Krishna possesses infinite potencies or energies (shaktis). These are systematically categorized into three primary classifications: (internal), (external), and (marginal) shaktis known as Antaranga, Bahiranga, and the Jiva living beings, the particles of consciousness , the marginal.
Here is a breakdown of how these energies relate to the Supreme Brahman:
1. Antaranga Shakti (Internal / Spiritual Energy), also known as Chit-shakti or Svarupa-shakti, this is the Supreme Lord’s personal, internal potency . It is entirely spiritual, eternal, and full of bliss and knowledge (sat-chit-ananda). It constitutes the spiritual world (Vaikuntha/Goloka) and the Lord’s personal attributes, pastimes, and abodes . It manifests in three ways: Sandhini (existence/maintenance), Samvit (knowledge/cognition), and Hladini (bliss/pleasure, embodied highestly as Radha).
2. Bahiranga Shakti (External / Material Energy) Also known as Maya-shakti, this is the Lord’s external or material potency. It is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and dissolution of the temporary material universes. It operates under the laws of the three modes of material nature (goodness, passion, and ignorance). While it is real, it is considered “external” because it veils the spiritual reality from those who enter it, creating the illusion of separation from the Divine.
3. Tatastha Shakti (Marginal Energy), also known as Jiva-shakti, this energy consists of the individual living entities (jivas or souls). The word Tatastha comes from tata (a riverbank or shoreline), which is neither completely in the water nor completely on the land. Because the souls belong to this marginal category, they have the free will to choose to come under the influence of either the Antaranga shakti (spiritual nature) or the Bahiranga shakti (material nature).
The real question, as far as we are concerned, is how can the Antaranga Shakti be manifested within the Bahiranga Sakti and influence the marginal energies, the Jivas.
This is quite mysterious, and it reveals the potency of Sri Guru , Sastra sanga, and the Holy names of the Lord , the above three are not at all influenced by the Bahiranga Sakti . The Divine will not only decends , but as the supersoul is within the hearts of all beings .Many pastimes are recorded in the Srimad Bhagavatam as to how Divinity decends and frees the marginal energies, the jiva , from the influences of the Bahiranga Sakti, the Antaranga Shakti can be very near or very far away . By divine grace and mercy and by humility in a call of the living beings, the Supreme Personality of Godhead decends in one form or another .
Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita 10 .10 .
teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ
bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam
dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ
yena mām upayānti te
Synonyms
teṣām — unto them; satata–yuktānām — always engaged; bhajatām — in rendering devotional service; prīti–pūrvakam — in loving ecstasy; dadāmi — I give; buddhi–yogam — real intelligence; tam — that; yena — by which; mām — unto Me; upayānti — come; te — they.
Translation
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
Buddhi yoga mean the decending process, the spiritual inspiration and the spiritual bliss of Divinity or Krishna is automatically felt in Krishna’s company , He is in His names , He is the bone fide Guru , he is present in the lila pastimes written of by the param para acaryas.
So it is possible to make the impossible possible the marginal energies can be freed from the influences of the Bahiranga shakti and the Antaranga shakti, the spiritual realms can decend .
