Sri Caitanya Mahāprabhu three Gurus.

Sri Caitanya Mahāprabhu showed us the importance of accepting different gurus , Siksa, and Diksa . One Diksa , and  many Siksa for some  , but one or two prominent advanced Siksa . In Mahāprabhu’s case, a sannyasa guru .The sastra sanga of our param para acaryas can also be considered Siksa , says Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur.

Sri Caitanya Mahāprabhu received spiritual initiation and guidance through four  principal figures in His lineage: Īśvara Purī as His initiating (dīkṣā) guru, Mādhavendra Purī as His grand-spiritual master (parama-guru), as such His  Siksa of the previous acaryas though their litratures which Mahāprabhu heard from to assist His deep meditations .

Keśava Bhāratī  as His renunciation (sannyāsa) guru.

Ramananda Roy… His Siksa Guru in Rasa tattva .

The four very personal Gurus in Mahāprabhu’s Life plus his associates from Sastra sanga.

Īśvara Purī (Initiating Guru): Lord Caitanya accepted Īśvara Purī as His dīkṣā-guru in Gaya, where He received the divine Gopāla mantra. Īśvara Purī was known for his extreme humility and pure devotion.

Mādhavendra Purī (Grand-Spiritual Master / Param-Guru): Though Mahāprabhu did not take direct physical initiation from him, Mādhavendra Purī is considered the root source of the Gaudiya tradition’s ecstatic love. His verse expressing deep separation from Krishna (“ayi dīna-dayārdra-nātha he”) laid the foundational emotional and theological blueprint for Mahāprabhu’s mission. He represents the Sastra sanga and the param para acaryas. They are all important guru’s in the devotees lives .

Keśava Bhāratī (Sannyāsa Guru): At age 24, Lord Caitanya accepted the formal order of sannyāsa (renunciation) from Keśava Bhāratī in the town of Katwa. During the ceremony, He was given the monastic name Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya.

Ramananda Roy.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu positioned Himself as a student and accepted Ramananda Raya as His instructor on rasa-tattva (the confidential science of transcendental loving relationships with Krishna) during their historic meeting on the banks of the Godavari River.

The Meeting and Role Reversal

  • Location: Vidyanagar, on the banks of the Godavari River.
  • The Dynamic: Although Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was a renounced sannyāsī and spiritual teacher, He humbly approached Ramananda Raya—a householder and state governor—to learn the deepest truths of devotional service.
  • The Dialogue: Mahaprabhu asked questions about the ultimate goal of life, and Ramananda Raya systematically answered, moving from external religious duties (varnashrama-dharma) to pure devotional service (shuddha-bhakti).

Core Teachings of Rasa-Tattva

  • Gradual Progression: Ramananda explained the scaling mellows of devotion, moving from passive servitude (dasya) and friendship (sakha) to parental affection (vatsalya) and conjugal love (madhurya).
  • The Highest Peak: The ultimate confidential truth discussed was the supreme devotion and pure love exemplified by the gopis (cowherd maidens) of Vrindavan toward Lord Krishna, specifically the mood of Srimati Radharani.
  • In Krishna consciousness we must understand Guru tattva in all its intracrasies, and the qualities of specific gurus who Krishna sends to us according to our needs at a particular time of our life . If you want to know Krishna He will send a Guru , Krishna is known in unlimited ways and in different relationships.  Guru is one and comes in many forms,  Sri Guru is the direct manifested form of Krishna.
