Such unthinking persons who are elected to power always hand the reigns of the country effectively over to businessmen who fund and lobby political parties. The Darwinian world of survival of the fittest takes on other connotations, in the form of trickle down economics, which is an excuse for global conglomerates and financial institutions to , in reality, impose centralised control of the banking world that enable global monopolies to gain more and more control of national and internationa businesses on every level .
The Vedic localised economies are based not solely on out and out consumerism where anything goes , but rather essential services and the provision of goods within a localised free market economy. You should know your Baker, your farmer, and your fruit and vegetable suppliers. When scientific dualism and culture of consciousness are given priorities, consumerism adjusts accordingly, and in such a world, businessmen take 3rd spot , over them are administering bodies who are solely advised and guided by the real intelligensia..

The Srimad Bhagavatam have the accounts of many great kings who were  cooperative with the intelligentsia and administered the businessmen,  the king protected workers and society as a whole including the animal kingdoms and life everywhere.
