Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.19
tadā rajas-tamo-bhāvāḥ
kāma-lobhādayaś ca ye
ceta etair anāviddhaṁ
sthitaṁ sattve prasīdati
Synonyms
tadā — at that time; rajaḥ — in the mode of passion; tamaḥ — the mode of ignorance; bhāvāḥ — the situation; kāma — lust and desire; lobha — hankering; ādayaḥ — others; ca — and; ye — whatever they are; cetaḥ — the mind; etaiḥ — by these; anāviddham — without being affected; sthitam — being fixed; sattve — in the mode of goodness; prasīdati — thus becomes fully satisfied.
Translation
As soon as irrevocable loving service is established in the heart, the effects of nature’s modes of passion and ignorance, such as lust, desire and hankering, disappear from the heart. Then the devotee is established in goodness, and he becomes completely happy.
The psychological scientific process is described. The Vedas give an analysis of what’s called modes of nature , namely goodness , passion, and ignorance. One may wonder why religious or yogic life is strict in some senses. This verse provides the answers, actually it’s a well known fact that discipline is essential for happy healthy and steadily progressive lives . The army uses it , schools use it , why not religious people.
The recommendation in the Vedas is to make the mind the best of friends and control it rather than it controlling us . With sacred chanting of any name of God, this practice is made easy . “it’s more difficult to control the mind than to stop the raging wind,” Arjuna tells Krishna in Bhagavad Gita.
If one is successful in controlling the mind and senses one comes to the platform of goodness , the beginning of the opening to trancendental wisdom , in such consciousness one is firmly situated and very well understands dualism and beyond.
To realise one is not the body and to see the true equality of all living beings and being free from the influences of lust ,anger , greed , envy and self centred madness is the results of trancendental training.
By association of those well practised and by helping them in their particular endeavours to render services to God and also humanity, one can boost one’s enthusiasm in getting free from the lower modes and reach high
