In 1997, 50 prominent foreign policy experts, including former senators, military leaders, and diplomats, sent an open letter to then-President Bill Clinton outlining their opposition to NATO expansion. “It is a policy error of historic proportions,” they wrote.

Conservative political commentator Pat Buchanan wrote in his 1999 book ‘A Republic, Not an Empire’, “By moving NATO onto Russia’s front porch, we have scheduled a twenty-first-century confrontation.”

The current director of the CIA, William Burns, said in 2008 that for Russia, “Ukraine’s accession to NATO is the brightest of all red lines.”

“I have not yet found anyone who would consider Ukraine in NATO as something other than a direct challenge to Russia’s interests,” he said.

We can learn from the past , the mistakes of encroachment or expansion into other territories, Russia’s origins, and the history of its church is in Kiev.  Thinking foreign policy and international relations is important for stability in the world. Joe Bidens government an  example, of  failing to listen to scholars or geopolitical experts with experience , Joe Biden appears naive when it comes to foreign policy , he has brought Russia and China together,  along with other nations, and has created a very unstable world . The USA has a  38 trillion debt and is looking for new markets to service that debt . It  appears  he sees  Nato expansion and a risk worth taking .a dangerous game .

Perhaps John Kennedy had more respect for his adversaries,  and in the famous peace he gave, he glorified Russia’s history and culture and sought peace.

An agreement was eventually reached between Kennedy & Khrushchev. Publicly, the Soviets would dismantle their offensive weapons in Cuba, subject to #United Nations verification, in exchange for a #US public declaration &agreement not to invade Cuba again.
